We are excited about the 'call-to-action' these musicians resonate. We cannot hold back their desire to immediately resource our philanthropic project: 'Instruments for Orphans.' Established in Austin and mindful of global responsibility, the lengths our volunteers stretch their time, talent, and network shows great resolve. The goal collecting donated new and used instruments at these events, and from the public-at-large, and distributing these instruments to children's homes will reach those that cannot get to the music. To that end, Austin Volunteer Orchestra (AVO) musicians and local performers in our sister towns visit these kids, teaching them to play and to care for the instruments. We hope these lessons can extend into their lives as they grow into our future.
With strong bridges between Austin and Houston, both by music and by friends, the natural flow of good vibrations and information is understood. And this community-based, pro-active audience driven pursuit has caught fire recently in Houston. So to thank those already active and to raise more awareness and funds, Carolyn Wonderland has generously given April 6th and April 13th, both Tuesday nights, for this cause. Wayne Sutton (Sister Seven and Wayne's Donkey) and Papa Mali (Killer Bees, Imperial Golden Crown Harmonizers, and more) will join Carolyn and her Houston compatriot Scott Daniels (Horseshoe and Carolyn Wonderland) at least one of the two evenings.
The proceeds from the door, whether instrument, accessory, or money benefits 'Instrument for Orphans': more directly, the kids. If you love great music for a great reason, these shows are a chance for Houston to exemplify its unique style of community effort. That is why Last Concert Café (LCC), a blazing beacon in the dark for audience resolve, will host these events. And since the foods rocks too, get there early to grind on the kind of food that only LCC can provide, Tex-Mex with that twist. Adventure on over for a night of delights so our senses, especially that one of well-being received when working together to help others in need, may take flight through joyous insights of musical rites. That's enough blah blah in a bottle; just get to the shows at full throttle. And remember, "Austin Volunteer Orchestra: ...don't let the name fool you, participation is mandatory."
