Matt Hubbard

Matt Hubbard moved to Austin, Texas in the fall of 1994. Matt started playing in a band around town, recorded, and eventually found recognition for his talents from the industry veterans, with which he now collaborates. Hubbard is a baritone crooner that can lay soulful blues and punch out the funk with the best. Schooled musically and ear-driven, Matt can feel a groove and sweep listeners off their feet. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist with keyboards, harmonica, melodica, and trombone, Hubbard has the tools to take his songwriting into any arena, whether live or studio, with any performers in the business. His catalogue of talents includes performing, writing, engineering, producing, and volunteering for community causes of cultural importance.

While in Austin Matt has engineered recordings with Willie Nelson, Ray Benson, Ray Price and Gillian Welch, just to name a few, and appear as a musician on recordings with Willie, Emmylou Harris, Kimmie Rhodes, Nathan Hamilton and others. He has co-produced, recorded and mixed Willie Nelson's "Rainbow Connection" released June 2001 by Island Records. As well, he played keyboards, harmonica, bass, percussion and backup vocals. The album earned Willie a Grammy nomination for Country Album of the Year. Matt has written original music commissioned by MTV for MTV.com, which appears on Vol. 1 of MTV.com "S*Track." He has appeared as a musician on the "Babe: Pig in the City" soundtrack. A recent releasing of a 3-song original EP occurred on January 15th, 2004 in Austin, TX. This led to his self-title release that same year. Those three originals by Matt featured performances by David Zettner and Willie Nelson, all of which is on his Matt Hubbard album. David Zettner created a striking cover for the project.

As well in 2004, Matt joined the ranks as a founding member of the super-ensemble, Austin Volunteer Orchestra (AVO). This grouping puts Matt up-front with equally talented singer-songwriters and musicians extraordinaire. His tireless efforts for AVO and the Kid's Music CD Project for Instruments for Orphans (IFO), an Austin-based non-profit, impresses his fans and artistic peers. He is currently engineering, producing, and recording for the cause. This is important work, and Matt does his part on a voluntary basis. And Matt Hubbard made his European debut this November performing at 'WonderJam in Amsterdam'. He ensured the audience a performance powerhouse night of fun and delivered. Most importantly though, Matt would like to give thanks to everyone for encouraging him over the years, especially his parents Bob and JoAnn.
