Answer:

I've been a fan of Pink Floyd since the late 60's. Richard was such an essential part of their sound, and created such lavish aural landscapes while employing mellotrons, tone generators, Hammond organ, the Yamaha C-7 acoustic piano, Farfisa Combo Compact Duo Organ, Rhodes Stage Piano, treated piano, and his famous EMS VCS3 Synth.
As a keyboard/piano player myself, Richard was a huge influence on me when I was younger. Not so much from a technical standpoint, but rather and experimental one. It was Richards style that really influenced not only myself, but many of the great electronic/experimental and Krautrock bands of the 70's and 80's. Richard played an integral role in the creation of an entire sub genre of rock music that over the years has become known as 'progressive rock'. He proved to the rock world that you didn't have to be a virtuoso flash player like Keith Emerson, or Rick Wakeman, while still engaging the listener. And for that he was brilliant.
